Energy Audit

Your HVAC Spring Checklist

April 25, 2019

Spring is here, and getting the HVAC system in your Columbus, Georgia home ready for the warm weather is crucial in ensuring that your home stays comfortable and energy efficient. Get your system ready by following the few checklist items listed below.

Perform an Energy Audit

With the winter season behind you, now is the time to get control of your energy costs. Start by comparing your energy bills from the past couple of years and check for the normal variances in heating and cooling throughout the year. This can help you make sure there are no abnormal spikes. Next, assess your appliances and their energy rating determining how much energy they are drawing with each use. Once you have this information, make a plan to monitor your energy use throughout the year by making a few simple cutbacks.

Replace Your Filters

As the winter season wore on, you may have been less than diligent about swapping out your air filters each month. Now is the time to replace your filter and set maintenance reminders. A dirty air filter can not only ruin the efficiency of your equipment, but it can also lead to damage to your system.

Schedule an AC Tune-Up

Through the winter, your AC system was lying dormant. If this is the case, it probably requires a little care before starting it up for the first time this spring. During your tune-up, your technician will check your refrigerant levels, clean the condenser coil to allow it to operate more efficiently, check for leaks and needed repairs, lubricate and inspect the fan motor, tighten the connections, and record the amount of power your compressor is drawing. After inspecting all of the components of your unit, they will then flush your condensate drain, and calibrate your thermostat.

Having regular tune-ups will help identify any small problems before they cause major repairs, and keep your system running as efficiently as possible.
